No doubt, you started the new year rocking out to EA/Harmonix's Rock Band (we did, too), but none of us were prepared for today's news:  The February 2008 issue of Official Xbox Magazine will have 3 exclusive tracks for Rock Band that you won't get anywhere else.  Freezepop - "Sprode", Bang Camaro - "Rock Rebellion", and Count Zero - "Shake" will be appearing on the included OXM DVD.

We can't help but wonder if Playstation 3 owners will get the same content via one of thier mags, but it's and interesting move for OXM (and print magazines in general).  It's no secret that print readership has been wanning since the proliferation of online videogame websites and the emergence of the blogosphere - and these sites are delivering content much sooner than their print counterparts.  Exclusive deals like this could be a key in revitalizing priint circulation if they could be applied to other games.

Whether or not it's profitable for print mags to adopt this technique, we'll have to see.  Regardless of your take on the issue, if you're already an OXM subscriber run (don't walk) over to your mailbox January 15 for your free Rock Band content.
