Last year was my first year at PAX, and it was one of the greatest weekends of my life. I barely slept, but I went to every concert, went to multiple panels, and I watched the Omegathon. I had a total blast. With PAX falling upon us in one week, the anticipation is building. I feel like a 12 year old at christmas time.
PAX is amazing, and for those that can't fathom its awesomeness, it's really something you have to experience for yourself. I went to E3 the year before it "died", and if paired in a cage match with the old E3, PAX would win in a knockout.
PAX is about the culture. Everyone is there to have fun. It just so happens everyone there also likes games. It's like nerds themselves have a kingdom where Gabe and Tycho are king. For three days Seattle will be our holy land.
This year I was lucky enough to be selected as an Omeganaut, which means I get to compete against 19 other PAX-goers for a chance at an all expence paid trip to the Tokyo Game Show and five grand spending cash. I'm excited, but I'm more nervous than I think I've ever been. I've been training, and I'll be posting a little about the games in the competition early next week.
It's so close, I can feel it. PAX is upon us.
