Sony announced today that the newest PSTwo model has begun shipping to retailers across the world!

The new model, SCPH-79000, is basically identical to previous models of the slimline PSTwo, however it features a drop in weight from an appalling 900 grams to a fancy free 600 grams! Additionally, the console's AC adaptor has lost a bit of weight too, from 350 to 250 grams.

A reduction of required parts in the construction of the new machine is reported as the reason for the drop in weight. With the added benefit of a decrease in production costs, this could mean another eventual price drop for the PSTwo, allowing those of us with vast libraries of Playstation games the opportunity to secure several backup systems for the inevitable day when our current systems blow up.
