Last night's PS3 firmware update 2.10 delivered support for Divx, XviD (the latter in an intriguing form), and a voice changer (for any eager 12 year olds out there).  Big w00t!  What the good old installer didn't mention was the ability to play disc based PS One games via Remote Play.  Sony hasn't officially responded to any inquiries regarding this story, but we are just as surprised as you.  

If don't remember where you tucked away all those awesome PS One classics, then start digging.  And let us know if playing those games remotely over the net makes them feel any cooler than they were years ago.
