Tim Schafer and the bad boys at
Double Fine (
Jack Black included) reveal, sort of, some key details of
Brutal Legend - their follow-up to the criticially acclaimed, if not sales challenged,
Psychonauts.
“
Holy crap!” exclaimed Schafer, “
I have been dreaming about this day for fifteen years. And now it is finally here. We’ve gathered small clues over the years about the Age of Metal, in songs, t-shirts, and album covers. But now we have uncovered the metal mother lode, the full legend of what actually happened in that loud and heavy era, and we are the lucky ones who get to tell the tale.”
So, you got it right? You know what the game is all about now? Yeah, good thing
Sierra released a press release to suss it all out for us. Though, to really get a good sense of where they're headed you should rush over to the
official game site below which offers up actual
screenshots,
concept art and a
trailer - all with a rawkin' metal soundtrack to accompany your browsing experience!
!oo!_The game centers around metal band roadie,
Eddie Riggs (voiced by
Jack Black) as he is sucked back in time to find his
'true purpose' (is that anything like
Steve Martin's 'special purpose'!?) as the ancients offer him the wealth and knowledge of their kingdom in exchange for his assistance in building up a legion of demons, dragsters, amp stacks, leather and chome. He'll then march this legion across the lands on a
Tour of Destruction as he drives this ancient world headlong into the
Age of Metal.
!oo!_The trailer and screenshots show an equally odd world in which
guitars are weapons of equal virtue alongside your trusty
battle axe - and
V8 roadsters can be ridden headlong into battle against the creatures wrought from the hellfires of
Schafer's twisted mind.
Brütal Legend will be release sometime in 2008 for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.
