Take that
Jack! A report in
Scientific American unveils solid evidence that
genetics, and
not videogames, are behind kids
agressive behaviour.
Richard Tremblay, professor of pediatrics, psychiatry and psychology at the
University of Montreal has recently unveiled the results of a study, published in
Scientific American, based on 20 years of work following
35,000 Canadian children.
In short- his findings point to a lack of proper genetic coding that causes fundamental lapses in social skills resulting in agressive behaviour - oh yeah, and if Mom was into smoking, drugs and drinking while pregnant - that doesn't likely help.
We’re looking at to what extent the chronically aggressive individuals show differences in terms of gene expressions compared to those on the normal trajectory. The individuals that are chronically aggressive have… more genes that are not expressed. [This] is an indication that the problem is at a very basic level.
In the long studies we’ve been doing, we’ve measured a number of characteristics during pregnancy and after birth that are good predictors.
Finally - now can we get someone on the horn to Jack Thompson and let him know what we've been saying all along - it's not the games Jack - it's the kids!
Every parent is always looking for an excuse for their children's behavior when more often than not - the answer is right at home.
