New Attempt to Curb Video Game Sales
I wonder if this is how Heavy Metal felt in the early nineties. Okay, nevermind I said that. British MP Keith Vaz is fighting for bigger rating labels on violent video games. Fine, okay. As
kindling for the fire he's trying to start, Vaz brings up the case of the murder of 14 year old Stefan Pakeerah. An interesting case to pursue really, rather like something Jack Thompson would do. You see, Stefan was murdered by a 17 year old kid with a hammer. The tabloids make a lot of noise about how it must have been inspired by the game Manhunt. Though, like in another recent case involving allegations about Grand Theft Auto influences, the murderer did not, in fact, own the game in question.
There is little chance that this law will pass, however. And actually, in Britain ratings have been more strictly enforced due to an increase in age rating symbols. All of the reasons for the ratings are listed on the package as well. Is this just another ploy to give more of a bad name to the video game industry? Yeah, yeah it is.
