Browse the Web and Watch TV on Your DS!

Expanding their online capabilities yet again, after standing so firmly against the venue for so long, Nintendo announced at a press conference in Japan yesterday two extra special features (hopefully) coming to a DS near you. I say hopefully because a US release has yet to be confirmed. Surprised?

Feature #1: Opera Web Browser. Indeed. Search the web from your DS using the built in Wi-Fi technology at home through your DSL line or at any hotspot (i.e. McDonalds). The browser software will be available on a regular DS cartridge, Japan release sometime in June.

Feature #2: DS Terrestrial Digital Broadcast Receiver Card. A plug-in peripheral that will allow you to watch digital television on the go. Not so solid a release date as the web browser, but said to be launched by the end of the year.

Perhaps this handheld rivalry between the DS and the PSP is about to get a little uglier.
