New Nvidia Chipset not shipping until March?
It was overheard at CES that Nvidia won't be shipping its G71 chipset (GeForce 7900 GTX?) until CeBIT, which will be held from March 9th through the 15th. That puts it almost two months behind ATI's Radeon X1900 which is scheduled to be announced at the end of this month. Though the performance is a great deal better than the 7800 GTX, some early benchmarks (from ATI) show the new Radeon slightly outperforming the G71. If that's true, then Nvidia's late release may not bold well for the company, unless they have something special up their sleeve? I dunno. I guess we'll hafta wait until March to find out. Here's the board's rumored specs, for all ya hardware geeks out there:
Nvidia G71 chipset (possibly named GeForce 7900 GTX)
32 pixel-processing pipelines
Core clocked at 700-750MHz
GDDR3 memory running at 800-900MHz (1.6-1.8GHz, effective)
