Brief Description

Pretty hot on the heels of the highly successful Metal Gear Acid release, Konami has announced a sequel, which is currently already well along on its road to completion. Further capitalizing on the capabilities of the Sony PSP, Konami hopes to push the sequel to an even more intriguing and enjoyable foray, once again pitting Snake in a play style previously unimagined.

SecretAsianMan: The first obvious difference between Metal Gear Acid 2 and its predecessor is the style of graphics being employed. MGA2 will feature a cel-shaded approach to the visuals, which at this point, look remarkably better than other recent titles using this same medium. The visual style will help differentiate between the Solid and Acid series, offering Acid a bit more of its own distinct look and place in the MG universe.

Vansau: I agree. The look is sort of a cross between Killer 7 and Jet Set Radio Future. The cel-shading in MGA2 is pretty unique-looking. For one thing, the colors are really strong instead of just being cartoony-bright. There are also a lot of cool artistic touches like using the colors to wash the textures out of portions of the environment, creating an over-exposed and cinematic feel to it. Plus, I don't think Snake has ever looked quite so fabulous as he did sporting purple in his outfit.

SecretAsianMan: Metal Gear Acid was the first 'card-based strategy' game set in the Metal Gear universe, and MGA2 will continue in those steps. While this game, as well as its forerunner may not be for the strict Metal Gear 'action' fan (like me), MGA1 succeeded in bringing the franchise to a new audience. The sequel will employ more actions and cards for the strategist to toy with, or in my case, confuse the hell out of, as well as a revamped user interface.

Vansau: It also looked like there was a lot more strategy involved outside of the cards. Snake seems able to interact with objects of the environment a lot during combat. The trailer we saw showed Snake ratcheting his targeting reticule between his enemies and barrels that contained some kind of flammable chemicals… needless to say, the resulting explosions were delightful.

SecretAsianMan: Little has been mentioned regarding the storyline of Metal Gear Acid 2, but I'd be willing to bet it will retain the 'on acid' feel of MGA1. This one should be ready for the holidays, along with Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence.
