The creator of Elebits, Shingo Mukaitoge, is apparently at it again! The latest title from this brilliant designer is a ¾ isometric action game entitled Dewy's Adventure, and from what has been revealed, the title appears to be a blending of a tried and true control method along with a few new innovative twists, including an interesting gesture-based system which allows the player to control difference aspects of the environment.

In Dewy's Adventure, the player controls the world, not the character. The player uses the wiimote to turn and dip and twist the world, while simultaneously controlling the weather and temperature around Dewy. The gesture-system in particular was an especially interesting idea, giving the player control over the temperature of the game's environment, witch allows the character to transform between a block of ice in areas of extreme cold to a cloud of steam. The gesture-system in Dewy's Adventure also seems interesting, giving the player the ability to control certain elements of the whether depending on how they swing the wiimote around. Shaking the wiimote left to right will create an earthquake while waving it vertically will produce wind or lightning and the like.

The plot of Dewy's Adventure is similar to Elebits in that the game world is one that appears childish and fantastic, as if the game itself is one long children's story. This is not necessarily a bad thing, as all you have to do is read the latest couple of Harry Potter™ novels to see how a children's story can take a dark twist. In the land of Dewy's Adventure, the evil Don Hedron has attacked a peaceful forest with the powers of Black Water. In an act of desperation, the Elder Tree, the caretaker of the forest, used its remaining energy to create a small droplet of water, named Dewy, in whom is imbued the power of the elements. Dewy, like any good protagonist, sets out on his quest to rid the world of darkness, shadow, and Don Hedron.

Just as with Elebits, Mukaitoge and co have provided an editing mode within the game, allowing people to create levels based on unlocked content and then share them through their WiiConnect24. While this is great and all, not many people actually make use of Elebits' editing function and it would have been nice to finally see a Wii game with actual internet-based multiplayer capabilities, for once. The fact that there are as of yet no games with net-enabled multiplayer modes for the Wii is extremely disappointing, but then Nintendo has never seemed very comfortable with the notion of multiplayer gaming between people that weren't in the same room.

Elebits' success has paved the way for Mukaitoge, and the man has already become a Wii developer of some note in both Japan and the States. Considering the popularity of Elebits there is no reason why an innovative title like Dewy's Adventure won't attain similar status among fans, and apparently the design process is proceeding smoothly and quickly as Dewy's Adventure is slated to hit stores in Fall 2007.
